Alison P

Maths Tutor

Hi, My name is Alison and I am a Maths teacher with over 25 years experience. I have taught in a range of different secondary schools in Hampshire, Dorset and Surrey. I have prepared hundreds of pupils for their GCSE in Maths and achieved measurable success throughout my career.

As a private tutor and an intervention tutor doing small group work or 1:1 teaching in schools, I also have experience in building confidence and increasing or restoring enjoyment of the subject. This is most rewarding and something I am looking forward to continuing with Forest 1st Tutoring.

In a voluntary role, I have worked with year 6 pupils in a primary school in Mid Wales where I have lived until just recently when I returned home to the New Forest. I was also the Numeracy Governor there. In that role, I regularly went into all classes from year R to year 6 to observe and be involved with the Maths lessons.

My belief is that children thrive when they feel valued and understood and that positive relationships are the key to successful learning. My teaching style is warm, patient, calm, encouraging and friendly with a good dose of humour thrown in!

Individually tailored lessons are essential for success as is allowing each child to progress at their own pace.
Many children fear Maths and are worried about getting it 'wrong'. My approach is to celebrate effort and their problem solving methods, not just getting it 'right'! Mistakes are a natural part of learning after all, and small victories rebuild confidence.

I love spending time with my two grown up sons and their families as well as walking, birdwatching and exploring the New Forest. I also do Antique fairs regularly....you may have seen me on Bargain Hunt!.....where I sell my collection of beautiful Studio glass.

I am proud to be a part of the Forest 1st Tutoring team and look forward to helping your child flourish.
