Hi, my name is Hilary and I have been a teacher for just under 21 years working in infant, primary and specialist resource base education. After graduating from Liverpool John Moores University, I worked in businesses in London for 6 years, before changing course and completing my PGCE from Southampton University, which started my career in education.
I specialised in infant children for many years before supporting children in year 6, and out of class as an intervention tutor. I have also taught in the EYFS, including delivering teaching in-person and online simultaneously during Covid. More recently my experiences have been supporting children from 4-11 with complex special needs, a role where building compassionate, caring and thoughtful relationships with children and families has been so important, working together with professionals to meet EHCP outcomes in the best ways.
I am passionate about working with young people and making a positive difference and really believe in education which is shaped to support each child. I am interested in early speech and language development and communication strategies, and have considerable experience supporting children with a diverse range of learning needs. I really enjoy making connections with the children I teach and can support them in building up their knowledge from their own particular starting points.
I am really excited to be part of Forest 1st Tutoring and helping to provide children with a supportive learning environment where they feel valued and safe to develop both personally and academically.
Outside of work, I have recently taught myself to crochet and am busily building up the range of projects I can achieve. I enjoy running slowly at Parkrun each week and am part of a local Woodfalls choir as well as an amateur singing group in Salisbury.
I have a 17 year old son who is at Bishop Wordsworth's School, and a 4 year old rescue cat.
