Hi, my name is Jeni and I have recently joined Forest 1st Tutoring after spending 10 years in Primary schools as a TA and then as a Teacher. I believe that children learn best when they feel calm, safe, supported and emotionally regulated. I take great joy in seeing children progress at their own pace, not only academically but emotionally and socially too. I believe that learning is made meaningful through following each child's interests and Forest 1st Tutoring's approach enables this to happen. I am proud and excited to be joining the team!
I specialise in teaching within primary years (including EYFS) and in particular with spelling, reading, writing and Phonics. I have extensive experience of working with children with additional needs and am a parent of a child with SEND myself. I am Makaton and PECS trained and have used various different communication systems to enable children to access not just learning but to engage them in the wider curriculum and gain confidence in all aspects of their lives.
My approach is nuturing, kind and patient whilst maintaining high expectations. Each session is planned to be purposeful, personalised and aligned with the children's needs. Lessons are fun, engaging, practical and will often include movement or sensory breaks as agreed with parents, other professionals and of course, your child.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading, spending time with my family, Parkrun and getting out on the water to paddle board.
