Hi I’m Kiran and I qualified as a teacher with a PGCE in Secondary Science in 2003. I spent the first 10 years of my career working in South London, mainstream secondary state schools, teaching KS3 and 4 Science, with Biology as my specialist subject. During my time in
mainstream education, I developed a real interest and passion for meeting the needs of my SENd students. This led to me working initially as a Teaching Assistant and then as a teacher in a specialist ,11-18 years, ASD school near Andover. During my 7 years there, I taught a
range of subjects including PSHE, Food Technology and Life Skills and I eventually became Head of Sixth Form.
More recently I have worked as a Foundation Learning Teacher and Head of Department at a successful sixth form college in North Hampshire. I have taught Functional Skills Entry Level Numeracy as well as several BTEC qualifications.
During my career I have worked with young people with a diverse range of needs including ASD (including PDA), ADHD, Down’s Syndrome, Global Processing Delay, SEMH and Selective Mutism. I have gained qualifications and completed courses based on these areas of need and I am always looking to gain further knowledge and understanding. I am also very familiar with the EHCP framework and contribute to and attend Annual Reviews with parents.
My approach to supporting a young person is based on three things – calmness, patience and kindness. I have personal lived experience of supporting my own child who has ASD/ADHD and has previously experienced EBSA and understand how challenging it can be for parents and their children, when the pressures of a mainstream classroom become too much. I understand the importance and benefits of an Alternative Provision - to not only support a young person academically, but for their well-being and emotional needs too. This ethos is at the heart of Forest 1st Tutoring and it is something that I truly believe in too.
I live in a village just outside Winchester with my husband, two children and our rescue dog. In my spare time I enjoy dog walking, gardening and watching my son play for his local football team.
