Marcia

Counsellor, Psychotherapist, Teaching Assistant

Hi, my name is Marcia, and I’m delighted to be part of the Forest 1st Tutoring team. I have over 20 years’ experience supporting children, young people and families, and currently work within further education as a Student Counsellor.

What I love about Forest 1st is the opportunity to see the whole child – recognising that confidence, emotional wellbeing and feeling understood can be just as important to learning as academic ability.

I particularly enjoy working with children and young people who may have lost confidence, become disengaged from learning, or simply need someone to approach things a little differently. I have extensive experience supporting young people with SEND, EHCPs and SEMH needs, including autism and ADHD. My approach is warm, encouraging and individualised. I take time to discover what makes each young person tick, build on their strengths and interests, and break challenges into achievable steps so they can experience success and begin to believe in themselves.

I am a qualified Counsellor/Psychotherapist and Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), with additional training in areas including trauma, positive psychology, safeguarding and mental health. Alongside academic support, my particular strengths include English, Psychology, Health & Social Care, PSHE, study skills, emotional wellbeing, confidence and motivation.

Outside of work, I love being outdoors, walking, yoga, dancing, reading and learning – and I’m always curious about what helps people thrive.

For me, tutoring is about far more than completing a piece of work. I want every young person I support to feel understood, capable and encouraged, and to leave our time together with greater confidence in themselves and what they can achieve.
