Hello, I’m Mel Sherrington, an Alternative Provision Tutor at Forest First.
I stepped out of the classroom last academic year, to follow my dream of enabling children to thrive and learn through providing engaging one to one sessions tailored to their individual interests.
I’m a passionate Forest School teacher and have witnessed firsthand how long-term Alternative Provision and Forest School fosters self-confidence, resilience, independence, and creativity. The freedom of this type of individual learning cultivates curious children with a profound connection to the natural world.
Whether it’s researching favourite woodland animals, writing bedtime stories for the “Owl who was afraid of the dark”, collecting bugs for races, or incorporating maths into natural exploration, I bring a wealth of resources and ideas to spark curiosity. Most of all, I believe that children learn and thrive when they are having fun, so our sessions will be lively and full of joy.
Outside the classroom, I’m a mum of teenage boys and have an extra busy spaniel to walk. As a family we love water sports and spend a lot of our spare time in or on the sea.
