Waterstones in Romsey was bursting with excitement on Saturday as more than 100 people gathered to celebrate the launch of two extraordinary books - both written by children, for children. At 2pm, the bustling bookshop hosted the launch of The Guinea Pig Saga, written by Erin, Rowan, Danny and Cara and Fur and Feathers Fight for the World, written by Penelope and Orla. The event, which ran for over two hours, was filled with pride, laughter and heartfelt moments as the young authors took centre stage.

Each group of writers gave short speeches and read extracts from their stories. Nicola Collings, who led the tutoring that inspired the books, shared the story behind the project.
“It all began as a simple idea — creating stories together for reading comprehension,” she said. “But as we developed the characters and adventures, we completely fell in love with them. Before we knew it, those stories had grown into books! I couldn’t be more proud of these incredible young people.”
The celebration brought together parents, friends, siblings, and members of the local community to mark what was truly a special occasion. The books are also helping others with proceeds supporting Southampton General Hospital, Baby Necessities Romsey, The Brain Tumour Trust, and charities supported by King Edward VI Preparatory School in Southampton.

In a touching moment, one of the young authors, Orla Snow, brought three generations of her family to the event. Her father Dan had the honour of cutting the ribbon, while her grandfather, Peter Snow, proudly watched on marking a family milestone of creativity and achievement.
It was a proud and heartwarming afternoon that proved anything is possible when imagination, teamwork and determination come together. Both books are available to purchase through the Forest 1st Tutoring website at www.forest-1st-tutoring.co.uk, with options for local delivery or postal orders.
