Working Together to Make a Difference

As we reach the end of another academic year, it feels like the right time to reflect on the children, families, schools and colleagues who have been part of Forest 1st Tutoring’s journey this year.

This year, we have had the privilege of supporting more than 200 children each week through our Alternative Provision, specialist SEND support, 11+ tutoring and after-school sessions. Every child is different, and we remain committed to providing education that is thoughtful, personal and carefully matched to each young person’s needs.

None of this happens because of one person. It happens because people work together. Our tutors, teaching assistants, coordinators and support team all play an important part in helping children feel safe, understood and able to learn.

We are proud to have over 50 experienced educators who bring skill, warmth and dedication to the children they teach. Whether they are helping a child who has lost confidence, preparing a student for GCSEs or supporting a young person with complex additional needs, our tutors share the same aim: to help children believe in themselves and move forward.

Behind the scenes, there is an amazing team keeping everything running. Hilary continues to look after our finances with the same care and dedication she has shown for the last two years. Becky has been instrumental in the growth of our Alternative Provision this year, while Joelle, Kim and Lucy work tirelessly behind the scenes supporting parents, tutors and schools, coordinating timetables, managing administration and ensuring everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Although families may not always see the work that happens away from their child's sessions, it is this teamwork that allows our tutors to focus on what matters most – helping children to learn, grow in confidence and enjoy their education.

Without these people, Forest 1st Tutoring would not be what it is today. Every member of the team plays a part in helping us provide support that is reliable, caring and personal.

We are also continuing to invest in our tutors. We are actively recruiting experienced educators who share our values and we provide ongoing professional development throughout the year. Most recently, our team has been working alongside Debs Mockford to further develop our understanding of how best to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

A very special moment this year was being shortlisted for Alternative Provision Provider of the Year at the National Tutoring Awards. Recently, five of our colleagues represented Forest 1st Tutoring at the awards event, and we were so proud to be there. For us, the recognition was not about a trophy. It was about the people in our team, the children we support and the difference that can be made when everyone works together with care and purpose.

Although Forest 1st Tutoring has grown this year, what matters most is the community we are building. We feel very fortunate to work with families, schools, local authorities and professionals who want the best for children and young people.

To everyone who has trusted us this year, thank you. We are grateful to be part of your children’s education, and we look forward to continuing to work together to help even more young people feel confident, supported and ready for what comes next.
